Circle of Friends

It would be a perfect world if everyone we knew would just get along. However, the truth of the matter is everyone has different personalities, ideas, and beliefs that sometime make it hard for the ones we love most to see eye to eye. As Pretty Girls, we know that the bible teaches us that we are to love everyone, despite our differences (Luke 6:27). Even though we love everyone with the love of Christ, we must also use wisdom in who we choose to call our "friends". Everyone you know may not have your best interest in mind. The power of words can build you up or tear you down (Proverbs 18:21). It is important that the people around you are speaking good things and encouraging words to help make you a better person. Those who gossip, lie, and slander others will have to answer to God. Ephesians 4:29 reminds us that no corrupt talk should come from our mouths, only good words that build others up. Be aware of those who you interact with, and do not pick up any bad habits that wouldn't be pleasing in God's eyes (Psalm 19:14). You have a right to choose your friends. You can choose what information you decide to share about yourself. You are a daughter of God, and you deserve to be loved and respected by everyone around you - even your friends.

Speak Life

Growing up, your mother may have taught you that name calling was mean. As you got a little older, she may have had to remind you that it's not nice gossip about others behind their backs. My mother always told me that if I didn't have anything nice to say, "then don't say anything at all." Those elementary manners that we learned as small children actually are based on biblical principals. The bible says"Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose." (Proverbs 18:21 MSG) Our words have power, and we must pay attention the the things we say. As Pretty Girls, we are to use our words to edify (build up) ourselves and those around us. Whenever you are having a bad day, you can speak God's word over yourself for encouragement and instantly feel a whole lot better. (Believe me it works!) If you know someone that is frustrated or upset, you can use your words to speak life into them and turn their frown upside down. Profanity, insulting others, name calling and gossiping are just a few of the many examples of the words people use to hurt each other. If ever someone tries to speak against who God says you are, use your words and and let them know all the good that God says you are. You have the authority over what you say; be sure your words are helping and not harming someone else.

Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Be A Real Friend

People of Good QualityLuke 6:31
"Treat others just as you want to be treated."

It is easy to be nice to the people we call our friends. It is not hard to return a simple "hello" to the stranger that walks past on the sidewalk. It is even quite simple to say "thank you" to someone who holds the door open for you. But how easy is it to be kind to those who we you know don't like us? How painless is it to do something nice for someone who intentionally hurts us? Pretty Girls have integrity, which means we treat others with love and respect - no matter what they have done or did to us. The bible says that we need to treat others the way we want to be treated. If someone is mean or rude to you, God sees and knows all, and He will take care of that person (Romans 12:19). In any relationship, we must first treat people the way we would want them to treat us. The first step to finding a good friend is to first start off by being a great friend.

Do Your Best

David A. BednarThe greatest thing in life that we can do is to be the best version of ourselves we can possibly be. Embrace whatever it is that you are good at. Don't compare yourself to others - you are you for a reason. Many people have different talents and gifts; each one of us are unique in our own way. We each have our own strengths and weaknesses - none of us were designed to be exactly alike. As Pretty Girls, it is our job to be confident in who God created us to be. The bible says that God has given us talents and gifts, and it's our job  to use those talents and gifts to help one another (1 Peter 4:10). As Christians, we represent Jesus Christ with how we live our lives. Everything that we do should be done with a happy heart and with spirit of excellence - no matter how big or small the task. If you are good at cleaning floors, clean the floors with a smile on your face. If you like to sing, sing with a happy heart. Whatever God has blessed you to be able to do, always strive to do your best at it.

True Beauty

Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

When I hear the word ‘beauty’, I immediately get an image in my mind of a woman. I imagine a woman with long beautiful hair that is tied up in a tight bun as she cooks dinner for her family. Her skin is flawless because her trust is in the Lord and as a result, she never has a sleepless night. Her physical body has curves and muscles because she participates in many activities with her children. Her fingernails and toenails are well manicured because she loves to treat herself every now and then to a day at the salon. She is strong, talented, and blessed by the Lord because she lives her life to serve God. Her friends and family love to be around her. Younger women want to glean from her. Her husband adores her, and God is pleased with her. This is the woman I strive to be; beautiful inside and out. This woman lives The Pretty Girl's Life.
